Frequently asked questions
Which formats can it open?
RAR (versions 4 and 5), 7Z, ZIP, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2, TAR.XZ, ISO, CAB, CPIO, XAR, AR/DEB and LHA. It uses libarchive, the same library behind many desktop archivers.
Can it open password-protected archives?
Password-protected ZIP files, yes: you are asked for the password. Encrypted RAR and 7Z files can’t be decrypted in the browser yet, so use 7-Zip or WinRAR for those.
Why does it fail on a .part2.rar file?
Multi-part (split) RAR archives need all parts together, which this tool doesn’t support. Single-file archives work.
Is there a size limit?
The whole archive is read into memory, so archives up to about 1–2 GB work on a computer. Phones may struggle above a few hundred MB.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Files are read and processed by your browser on your own device, so there is no upload wait and nothing leaves your computer or phone.
