Frequently asked questions
Can it open very large files?
Yes. Only the bytes on screen are read from the file, so multi-gigabyte disk images and videos open instantly without filling memory.
How do I search for bytes?
Choose Hex and type bytes such as 50 4B 03 04 (spaces optional), or choose Text to search for words. Search starts after the selected byte and wraps around.
What does the byte inspector show?
The value at the selected byte read as signed and unsigned 8, 16, 32 and 64-bit integers, 32 and 64-bit floats and a UTF-8 character, in little- or big-endian order.
Can I edit the file?
No. This is a viewer only; the file is never changed.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Files are read and processed by your browser on your own device, so there is no upload wait and nothing leaves your computer or phone.
