Frequently asked questions

Which format should I use on my website?

WOFF2. Every current browser supports it and it is usually 30–50% smaller than TTF. Add WOFF only if you need very old browsers.

Does converting change how the font looks?

No. WOFF and WOFF2 are compressed wrappers around the same font data, so glyphs, kerning and features stay the same.

Can it convert TTF to OTF?

Only the container changes. A TrueType font stays TrueType and a CFF (PostScript) font stays CFF; converting outlines between the two isn’t done here.

Am I allowed to convert any font?

Check the font’s licence. Open fonts such as those under the SIL Open Font License can be converted and self-hosted; many commercial licences restrict web use.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Files are read and processed by your browser on your own device, so there is no upload wait and nothing leaves your computer or phone.
