Frequently asked questions

Why is the PNG better than a JPG for a round photo?

PNG keeps the corners outside the circle transparent, so the picture looks round on any background. JPG has no transparency, so the corners are filled with the colour you choose.

What size should a profile picture be?

WhatsApp, Instagram and LinkedIn all show profile photos as circles. 800×800 px is sharp on every phone; use 1080 px if you want extra detail, or 400 px for a small file.

Will WhatsApp crop my round photo again?

WhatsApp shows the centre of a square image as a circle. Because this tool saves a square image with the circle filling it, nothing important gets cut off.
