How to play chess online

  1. Choose vs Computer, Pass & play or Online with a friend, and your colour.
  2. Tap or drag a piece; the dots show where it can go. Pawns reaching the last rank choose a piece.
  3. Online, create a game and share the code or QR code. The game starts when your friend joins.

How do I play chess online with a friend?

Choose Online with a friend and press Create game, then send your friend the code or let them scan the QR code. They open this page, enter the code and the game starts. You can add a clock, offer a draw, resign and play a rematch with colours swapped. The two devices connect directly to each other.

How strong is the computer?

Easy makes beginner mistakes, Medium plays sensibly and punishes loose pieces, and Hard searches several moves ahead. It runs on your device, so it works offline.

Are all the rules supported?

Yes: castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate and stalemate, plus draws by threefold repetition, the 50-move rule and insufficient material.

Can I save my game?

Games against the computer and pass-and-play games resume where you left off. Copy or download the moves as PGN to study them in any chess program.
