Frequently asked questions

What is the break-even formula?

Break-even units = fixed costs ÷ (selling price − variable cost per unit). The difference between price and variable cost is called the contribution per unit.

What is a contribution margin?

It is the share of each sale left to cover fixed costs and profit: (price − variable cost) ÷ price. A higher contribution margin means you break even sooner.
