How to preview a social media post

  1. Type your post and add an image if you have one.
  2. Check the counters and the cut-off point on each platform.
  3. Move the important words above the fold, then copy your post.

Frequently asked questions

What are the character limits?

X allows 280 characters for standard accounts (links count as 23 and most emoji as 2). LinkedIn posts allow 3,000, Instagram captions 2,200 with up to 30 hashtags, and Facebook about 63,000.

Where does “see more” appear?

Feeds show only the first few lines: about 125 characters on Instagram, around 210 characters or three lines on LinkedIn, and roughly five lines on Facebook. The exact point depends on the screen and the app version.

Is my post or image uploaded?

No. The previews are drawn in your browser. Nothing is posted or sent anywhere.

How is this different from the Link Preview Checker?

The Link Preview Checker shows the card a shared URL produces from its meta tags. This tool is for writing the post text itself.
