Frequently asked questions

Do spaces count as characters?

Usually yes. Social networks and SMS count spaces. The tool shows both counts, with and without spaces.

How long should a meta description be?

Around 140–160 characters. Google may cut longer descriptions in search results.

Why does an SMS with Hindi or emoji allow fewer characters?

Messages with non-Latin characters or emoji use Unicode encoding, which allows 70 characters per SMS instead of 160.
