Frequently asked questions
Which formats can it play?
MP4, M4V, MOV, MKV, WebM, MPEG-TS (.ts, .m2ts), OGG and 3GP video, HLS (.m3u8) streams, and MP3, AAC, M4A, FLAC, WAV and Opus audio. Video codecs H.264, H.265 (where your device supports it), VP8, VP9 and AV1, and audio including AAC, MP3, Opus, FLAC and Dolby Digital (AC-3 and E-AC-3). AVI, WMV and FLV need converting to MP4 first.
How do I change the audio language?
Movies with several audio tracks show a language button in the player bar. Pick a track and playback carries on from the same moment. In Chrome and Firefox, switching away from the main track decodes the file on your device, so speed control and picture-in-picture turn off for that video.
How do I add subtitles?
Press the subtitles button and choose “Add subtitle file”, or drop SRT, VTT, ASS or SSA files onto the page. A file named like the video (for example Movie.hi.srt next to Movie.mkv) is matched to it and labelled with its language. You can shift the timing and change the size.
Why won’t a link play?
The link must point straight at a video file or an .m3u8 stream, not at a web page. Some sites also block playback on other websites. YouTube and Vimeo links open in their own embedded player.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Files are read directly from your device by your browser, and the player remembers where you stopped only in this browser.
