UUIDs are made with your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator. v7 UUIDs start with a timestamp, so they sort by creation time, which makes them better as database keys.
How to use UUID Generator
- Choose v4 or v7 and how many you need.
- Pick the format options.
- Copy or download the list.
Frequently asked questions
v4 or v7: which should I use?
v4 is fully random and widely supported. v7 starts with a timestamp, so new IDs sort in creation order, which keeps database indexes efficient.
Can two UUIDs be the same?
In practice no. A v4 UUID has 122 random bits, making a collision astronomically unlikely.
